Mohit’s writing is wonderfully relentless as the reader is immediately thrown into the story without useless exhibition or prologue. Mohit shows exactly where the story takes place and who the reader is following with no second guesses. The sense of place is astounding. Each detail is effortlessly placed and incorporated among the interaction of the characters. Perhaps because the characters are based in reality, they jump from the page as real people within the tale. As such, this is a story rich with probing questions and a real, heart opening tale steeped in real emotion.

The dialogue is also realistic, believable and quotable. This is partly because it never strays from fitting each character. It is not forced by any means, and therefore comes easily to the reader. Because this tale involves traveling, it works for people all over the world. The subjects presented here work beyond culture or creed and instead touch the human heart at the core.

This book tells the tale of a spiritual journey, and so it carries the reader through some very powerful concepts. However, it does not offend or bombard with over-the-head preaching. Instead, this book gently guides while still carrying a strong sense of presence. The reader can take form the story what he or she wants, and do so comfortably, yet it is still thought provoking. Intelligently written and well paced, A. Mohit’s Never Had A Chance To Say Goodbye is a solid choice for the avid reader.

Some of the pieces contained within I Love Life: illesims and About a Girl are like slam poetry, demanding to be read aloud in coffee shops in heavy tones. Others are soft notes of love for tender moments between lovers. Every poem keeps so perfectly within itself and it’s own context, never bleeding off or confusing the point. The ebb and flow of the prose keeps the beat easily, without effort from the audience to pick apart or figure out how to read them. The writing does the work for the reader in the comprehension aspect, while leaving very deep concepts for the audience to take with them. Therefore, there are no distractions in this book, because the author writes so fluidly and so well.The only over arching theme in this tome is that of life itself. These poems are a tribute to all aspects, even heartbreak.

The author finds beauty in every crack and finds purpose in every statement. A few of the poems are more political or bring big questions into play for the reader to ponder. Tomorrow and 21st Century are both examples of hard hitting and truthful sentiments. Intelligent and thought provoking, these and other works about society as a whole sit side by side very sparse, simple pieces which aim and succeed at touching the soul, regardless of gender or background. Those more personal poems are specific and yet universal. Some tell whole stories, while others tell snippets, an all convey an understanding of complex emotions. The poem Show Me is a wonderful example of the latter. Say Ladies, which sits on the same page, is an example of the author’s way of showing a complete scene with all the important characters involved, in a small space. Nothing is crammed, and yet everything fits. I Love Life: illeisms and About a girl is a beautiful book of poetry and prose for any young adult or older reader.

Snake Skin (CJ Lyons)

Featured Book Review: Snake Skin

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was simply amazed at how she can bring to life the characters in this book. You can feel what they are feeling and experiencing at the moment. The main character knows she must put on her snake skin to do the job and in some cases go against the rules to get the job done.

At the beginning of the book you can see why the main character needs to be as tough as she is when it comes to catching the guilty party and saving this young girls life even at the expense of sacrificing time with her family. As with each piece of evidence that comes to life, Lucy Guardino trusts her gut instinct even if others around her dont agree with her. As it turns out she is right and follows through. She learns that the kidnapped girl has been trying to run away from her own life even when on the outside it seems she has everything. The father and mother are more concerned with their own needs and not focusing their attention on their daughter. Lucy senses this after talking to (and observing) them in the process of trying to solve the case.

Lucy pieces together the events that lead up to the kidnappers motives. He thinks that he is saving Ashley but in reality he is really trying to save himself from things he thought were the truth but are not what he has been lead to believe all these years. When Lucy finally comes across the one person who can help save Ashley, she knows she is on the right track. With the kidnapper always lurking right behind her every step of the way, Lucy takes a chance and gets him to admit what he has done.

With each heart pounding, keeping you on the edge of your seat step of the way, you will find this author keeps you reading, not wanting to stop until you reach the end. She knows how to keep you entertained with a thrill ride you want to take along with her. You will cheer for the hero, are happy to see the bad guy finally caught and come to realize that along the way you learn a little bit more about yourself.

If you are looking for an author to add to your list of favorites, this is the one. She will not disappoint and takes you on a ride you wont believe but glad you came along!

The author will keep you on the edge of your seat. You want to keep reading and don’t want to put the novel down until the end. The storyline is heart pounding, you feel what the character is feeling. CJ Lyons knows how to make the written word come to life without repeating words or phrases just create a good storyline. The author will have a fantastic career with books that will keep you coming back for more. Believeable, strong characters with pulse pounding action. All this and more will keep you reading this author for many years to come.

The Break by Kerry Stanley is a novel that breaks all genre barriers. To begin reading the book, one might wonder whether it was a love story, mystery, romance, or thriller. As it turns out, the story is all of these. Although the story is written in present day circumstances, the style of writing is much like what one might read one hundred years ago – descriptive, dramatic and heavy on the emotions. The main characters are three incredibly strong women who are fighting evil. Each has specific powers which will assist them and their companions in time of crisis – sort of like real life Power Puff Girls. The main goal of the women, especially Annabelle, is to prevent a gateway, the Break, from opening into this world which would allow death and destruction masked as natural disasters to occur and the travels of unsavory characters into our system. All three women themselves are from another world but have the characteristics of this one.

The story begins with background on most of the characters and Annabelles protected life overseen by Jessica becomes clear. We are uncertain where the story is headed but the intrigue is there. At first thought, it seems to be a mystery – and it is. Characters such as Rose begin appearing in the story who were thought to be dead, or Christian, Annabelles adopted brother, who was believed to be on their side of the battle against adversity.

Rapidly the novel turns into a thriller with many twists and turns – the supernatural powers of the young women come to light as they face enemy after enemy. How the women fight the evil forces which threaten the world is unique and forceful. As abruptly as the book became a thriller halfway through, it becomes a love story as the book begins to wind down.

The growing attraction between Annabel and Jessica is revealed – very unexpected but not inappropriately portrayed. The story ends with many questions left unanswered and battles still to be fought and won but this endings purpose is made clear when a portion of the sequel, Concordia is made available for review at the end of the volume.

It is clear that this story, although not perfect in style and structure, would make a wonderful movie. The main characters make Charlies Angels look like Josie and the Pussycats – it is a story that keeps moving and definitely would keep an audience, as it does the readers, on the edge of their seats waiting for the next shoe to drop.
