The Power Trip

A luxurious yacht in the Sea of Cortez, a birthday cruise for one of the world’s most beautiful women and an invitation no one can refuse. The Power Trip—take it if you dare.

From Hollywood icon and mega-seller Jackie Collins comes a thrilling new novel, The Power Trip, set on a state of the art luxury yacht off the coast of Cabo San Lucas. A tropical getaway with a cast of global power-hungry elites turns sour when they find out maybe they don’t control as much of the world as they thought . . .

In The Power Trip you will meet Aleksandr Kasianenko, a billionaire Russian oligarch, as he sets sail on The Bianca. You’ll meet his sexy supermodel girlfriend, whom The Bianca is named after, and five dynamic, powerful, and famous couples invited on the yacht’s maiden voyage: Hammond Patterson, a driven Senator, and his lovely but unhappy wife, Sierra; Cliff Baxter, a charming, never-married movie star, and his ex-waitress girlfriend, Lori; Taye Sherwin, a famous black UK footballer and his interior designer wife, Ashley; Luca Perez, a male Latin singing sensation with his older decadent English boyfriend, Jeromy; and Flynn, a maverick journalist with his Asian renegade female friend, Xuan.

You will also meet Russian mobster, Sergei Zukov, a man with a grudge against Aleksandr. And Sergei’s Mexican beauty queen girlfriend, Ina, whose brother, Cruz, is a master pirate with orders to hold The Bianca and its illustrious rota of guests for ransom.

The Power Trip explorers the decadent playgrounds of the super-rich . . . and leaves you hungry for more.

The Parent Pact by Laurie Kellogg

Featured Book Review: The Parent Pact

The Parent Pact

The Parent Pact (Book Three of The Return to Redemption Series) is a love story about an unlikely pair of people who must overcome their differences to make a relationship work. 33 year-old Tyler Fitzpatrick is a successful businessman who rose from poverty and suffered through a difficult married life that left him a widower and a single father. Annie Barnes, ten years younger, is a struggling single mom who dropped out of high school and lost both parents when she was young.

When Tyler and Annie see each other for the first time at their kids’ school, despite the difference in their ages and lifestyles, sparks fly.

After they become better acquainted, Tyler proposes a Parent Pact. They each notice that their child likes the other parent, so they agree to become role models to each other’s child and to fill one another’s needs as single parents. Tyler offers Annie a job as his housekeeper, caring for his daughter and home in Redemption, PA. This includes a new car with prepaid gas credit card, money for food and clothes shopping. Tyler is immediately interested in Annie, but she has been hurt badly in the past and is therefore a bit more trepidacious about getting involved with him. But they enjoy each other’s company and their bond grows: Tyler slowly learns that he shouldn’t ignore his difficult past and there’s more to life than money and social status. Annie starts to read Aesop fables, applies to college, and learns about etiquette.

Author Laurie Kellogg tells this love story with ease while recognizing the real life glitches that come with a unique couple in love. Tyler and Annie prove that love can work regardless of age, background and life’s complications. To paraphrase Tyler’s sister in the book: “It’s better to enjoy the cake today while it’s here…than when it’s gone and you have none at all.”

Kellogg is a two-time winner and seven-time nominee for the Romance Writers of America® Golden Heart® award, the winner of Pacific Northwest Writers Association® Zola award, and a Romantic Times® American Title I finalist. The Parent Pact series further proves she is a forerunner of Romance Novels. – GoodbooksToday.com Reviews

Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet by Bill McKibben

Book of the Week: Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet
Bill McKibben (Author)
( 100+ Reviews )

Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet

The bestselling author of Deep Economy shows that we’re living on a fundamentally altered planet — and opens our eyes to the kind of change we’ll need in order to make our civilization endure.

Twenty years ago, with The End of Nature, Bill McKibben offered one of the earliest warnings about global warming. Those warnings went mostly unheeded; now, he insists, we need to acknowledge that we’ve waited too long, and that massive change is not only unavoidable but already under way. Our old familiar globe is suddenly melting, drying, acidifying, flooding, and burning in ways that no human has ever seen. We’ve created, in very short order, a new planet, still recognizable but fundamentally different. We may as well call it Eaarth.

That new planet is filled with new binds and traps. A changing world costs large sums to defend — think of the money that went to repair New Orleans, or the trillions of dollars it will take to transform our energy systems. But the endless economic growth that could underwrite such largesse depends on the stable planet we’ve managed to damage and degrade. We can’t rely on old habits any longer.

Our hope depends, McKibben argues, on scaling back — on building the kind of societies and economies that can hunker down, concentrate on essentials, and create the type of community (in the neighborhood, but also on the Internet) that will allow us to weather trouble on an unprecedented scale. Change — fundamental change — is our best hope on a planet suddenly and violently out of balance.
