After several decades of looking for true love and never finding it, aging model and lingerie designer, Alexa Ranger, has finally given up the search. A couple years ago, she got tired of the game completely and just stopped dating. Now friends and family keep her mostly content, so it’s shocking at 50 yrs old to find herself suddenly wanting a sex life again.

It’s even more shocking to be attracted to a much younger man this time. She definitely thinks medically retired Marine, Casey Carter is sexy, but can’t get passed their twelve year age difference to even consider a fling. Not that it matters anyway, anything resembling a normal dating relationship is totally out of the question because Casey is related to and living with her daughter’s boyfriend. The very last thing Alexa needs is yet another talk-show worthy drama in her already complicated life, no matter how amazing Casey’s kisses make her feel.

This is a great character study in romance and the first of the series. I can’t wait to read them all. I definitely recommend this author and her books to anyone who loves a good romance and likes to laugh. And keep an eye out for more from this wonderful lady. ~ Jesse V. But what happens when you lose all memory of your former life and you wake up a completely different individual? This is exactly what happens to Emma, the main character, when she is struck by a car and falls into a coma. When she awakens after several weeks, she does not recognize anyone – her parents, her boyfriend Andy, all of her friends, the cheer leading squad she was on or any of her teachers. And not only that, she seems to have taken on a new – and better personality.

Despite the positive changes within her, the people she knows and loves find it difficult to accept this new and improved Emma. That is, everyone but Mason, her assistant therapist in the hospital and her new love interest. This story tells of her struggles with her parents to understand a “new” daughter, the difficulties of finding herself in the strange and totally different world she finds herself in, and the changes in her perceptions of life itself. Secrets are imbedded within the minds of some of those she has been involved with and all is laid bare by the end of this enchanting and never dull story of a girl who re-creates herself and changes the lives of those around her. The author, Shelly Crane, strikes just the right chord by telling this account in first person.

We have access to the innermost thoughts of the main character and this guides us on her journey in finding and accepting the transformed person she has become. While her new boyfriend, Mason, seems almost too caring and definitely too good to be true, most of us can think of people in our lives who spend their entire existence just taking care of others out of the kindness of their hearts. By the end of this book, we realize that this is more than a love story.

It is a tale of a girl on the path to redemption and also a mystery of how all of these events culminated. The ending is a surprise and explains many of the earlier occurrences, thoughts, statements and actions in the story. Everything comes together in the last portion of this book and we can all assume that Emma and Mason lived happily ever after. The Magic Pumpkin is a fantastical and adventurous story about two brothers who suddenly find themselves in a beautiful and strange land. Escorted by a magic pumpkin, the young boys stick by each other and figure things out together.In this fantasy world, the boys discover four areas: Springland, Winterland, Summerland and Autumnland. Each area has pleasures and challenges. The skies turn multiple colors; there is a make-place, a clothes stone, paint plants and a leaf catching area. There are magical rivers (White, Black and Gold), fire trees, singing fish, and mystical fruits like pinkberries, rainberries, pumpkin apples and parrots (potato on the outside, carrot inside and the taste of French toast). The magic pumpkin flies the boys everywhere and remains their constant companion, their support, and sometimes their savior.

When the books opens, Owen is five years old, Oliver is three, and they have been in this world since little Oliver was only 18 months old. And it is not revealed until later that Oliver was very sick when he arrived. The author, Palus, is very good at describing the boys thoughts and feelings as they navigate their relationship and the environment around them. The boys don’t understand how they got to this special place, but they figure out how to decide their future together.

Throughout this tale, the young brothers hold together through tantrums and hunger, big storms, attacking beasts, and shadow eyes that cause nightmares and night terrors. Oliver’s illness actually fades and he gets healthier. The boys grow up together; both boys outgrow their clothes, Owen tries to potty train Oliver. Oliver’s speech develops from one-word answers to full sentences. And because Owen is older and spends most of his time caring for Oliver, he tires of their life there sooner. This remarkable story explores the bond between two young brothers as they take an exciting and daring journey together and learn from each other how to be strong.
